For Laptop DJ-ing

Apart from a good reliable optimized laptop for DJ-ing, is to have a good quality pro  sound card  so if you haven’t done so then it is worth investigating in the top sound cards available.

You can start with pretty much right away with the right software and your laptop, but to benefit from hardware mixing (most DJ’s usually would prefer this), your laptop needs at least two separate stereo audio outputs.

With an internal mixer, or mixer inside the software, one stereo signal will be the cue and the other will be master out. With an external mixer, or hardware mixer at the club, there will be a separate stereo signal for both tracks. Some software packages allow more than two tracks to play at once.

As a few laptops come with a multi-channel soundcard, an external soundcard is essential. There are several USB soundcards for less than $200, such as the M-Audio Fast Track Pro and Numark DJ I/O.

FireWire soundcards can offer higher sound quality at a higher price; Presonus and Echo make excellent FireWire options, and if your laptop has a PC Card slot, the Echo Indigo DJ is another great option.

There are also controllers equipped with soundcards, such as the DJ Console Rmx, Omni Control, VCM-100 and M-Audio Xponent.

Echo AudioFire4  is a bit pricey but it really is one of the top best quality sounds around.

Lady Gaga – The Fame Monster [Deluxe Edition]

Lady Gaga_The Fame Monster

Lady Gaga – The Fame Monster [Deluxe Edition]

Has an album title ever been so self-prophetic? In its first year, this electro pop opus rocketed Lady Gaga from unknown New York lounge singer to the world’s biggest pop star this side of Britney Spears. The Fame’s brand of pop is shamelessly decadent: 11 of its 13 songs are about money, celebrity, sex, clubbing, or a sticky combination of all four. It’s insipid subject matter, unless you consider Gaga as less of a silly, manufactured blonde than an ingenious artist playing the part of a glitzy pop star. Witness The Fame’s impeccably sleek opening songs, from the carelessly rambling chorus of “Just Dance” to the snappy, futuristic beat of “Love Game”: Gaga’s got the outrageous outfits and dance moves down to a science, but underneath it all, the music is aggressive and authoritarian in ways that most other Top 40 tunes are not. Often compared to Gwen Stefani’s, Gaga’s vocals are in fact richer and rounder, allowing her a certain stylistic versatility, and her personae alternate from wild party kid to vulnerable lover. Some of the risks don’t always pay off, but the Lady Gaga of the dark and ardent mega hit “Poker Face” prevails. She is commandeering enough, bizarre and beguiling enough, to ensure that she’ll be basking in our attention for a very long time. –Erin Thompson

This title was released on November 23, 2009.

More info and reviews on  Bose L1 Model II System

Great for one man shows and portability. Good for parties and weddings in ballrooms. Where loudness is not the important thing but quality and the clients can dance and talk to each other.

There is an excellent forum for the Bose L1 systems here, but make sure you go to the DJ’s section.

One of the most frequent comments is “I can’t believe how CLEAR the sound is!”

Ok, these PAs are not for those who are looking for the ‘loud’ power. If you do then I would recommend the QSC HPR series which are excellent in sound and lots of power!

Cheers
