DJ Equipment – VST Plugin
Virtual Studio Technology – VST
VST is a Technology and Trademark by Steinberg
With VST’s, I would call them the next stage in music making.
They allow endless possibilities to sound generation and editing, the best VST plug-ins bring expensive studio type effects and systems to the home based musician, to gig with just your laptop.
You’ve got your dynamic processors, which includes compressors, limiters, gates, de-essers, etc.
Having at least one compression plug-in is really a must for mixing purposes. Most sequencers will have some sort of built in EQ, but there are tons of equalizer plug-ins out there too.
Having a reverb plug-in is an absolute necessary if you are going to be doing any mixing. They help to space your sound out and simply add a ton of options.
In addition to these types of plug-ins, you’ve also got modulation effect plug-ins like chorus, flanger, and phasing. These are probably the least important for mixing, but can certainly be nice to have around.
There are many, many plug-ins available to the home based musician and on a daily basis there are hundreds of new ones being released. There is a lot of free VST stuff out there.
Here are a few of VST sites I like to visit all the time:
